WHY LOS ANGELES TUTOR?

Chemistry Tutor

Chemistry is the science concerned with the composition, structure, and properties of matter, as well as the changes it undergoes during chemical reactions. Chemistry seems to be a course in high school that all students have to take, even if they feel that later in college, they will never need it.  Students either love chemistry or hate it.  Regardless of where you are on that spectrum, chemistry is a class almost all high school students take and most are glad they did.  Chemistry not only teaches you about atoms and molecules, but it also teaches you how to think in a way that you may never have before.  Chemistry is a combination of math, memorizing of rules and a lot of application.  Chemistry also sharpens your analytical thinking skills.  To be truly successful with chemistry you must keep up with your studies and practice almost every day.  Chemistry can get overwhelming if you decide to wait until the last minute to prepare for your test.  If you keep up with the material and invest about 1-2 hours a day on your own, you should be in great shape for the exam.   Do enough problems so you gain the confidence you need to succeed.  A lot of students do poorly on chemistry exams because they get nervous and “blank out.” Learn the material well in advance of the test and be confident that you will do well.  Below, you will find many helpful resources to guide you through your chemistry learning process.  We’ve supplied a lot of key equations and rules that most students will know by the time their chemistry class is completely finished. Our Los Angeles Tutors understand all of these rules and equations and are ready to help. At the bottom of the page, you will find a list of resources you can utilize to get more strategies and practice problems to improve your chemistry skills.  Los Angeles Tutor has put together a great team of in home tutors in your area to help with Chemistry. Helpful Chemistry Formulas

Heat transfer

Density = mass/ volume    (D= m/V)

Kelvin = Celsius +273

Heat transferred to water= Mw * ΔTw * Cpw (specific heat of water)

  • ΔTw = Tf - Ti

  • Cp = 4.2 J/goC

Heat transferred to substance A= MA * ΔTA * CpA

Common chemical equations

H2 + O → H2O        (hydrogen combines with oxygen to produce water)

CH4 + 2 O2 → CO2 + 2H2O        (burning of methane)

2Na + Cl2 2NaCl        (Sodium combines with Chloride to produce salt)

Ideal Gas Laws

pV = nRT -  where P is the pressure, V is the volume of gas, n is the number of moles and R is the gas constant and T is temperature.

n=m/M - where m is the mass and M is the molar mass.

Jean Baptiste Biot pioneered early studies of heat conduction.  He was born in Paris, France, on April 21, 1774.
